Part 1: Getting Started with SheerPower 4GL
This is the first part of 5 brief tutorials to help you
get familiar with SheerPower 4GL and the SPDEV.
- To begin you will need to create a new program file in the
SheerPower Rapid Development Environment program (SPDEV). Run
SPDEV by clicking on the shortcut icon on your desktop.
- Click on the "New File" icon in the toolbar.
- The "Name New File..." dialog box will open. Type the name of
the program file you want to create in the "File Name:" field.
(Use "menu" as the file name for this tutorial).
- The default SheerPower source program file type is "SPSRC". Click on
the "Save" button. The .spsrc file type extension will automatically be added
on to the file name.
- The "Get Program Info" window will open. SPDEV will use the information you enter
here to provide the authoring details of the applications you write in a program
template that is automatically created. Click on the "Cancel" button to create a
program file with no program template. To have the program template created in the
file, fill in your name and company name, then click on the "OK" button.
- Next, a new blank program file window will open in SPDEV. You are now
ready to create your first SheerPower program.
Part 2 provides the easy code
to create a short menu program, and goes through the steps on how to run it.
